September 11th had happened just a few days earlier and in the
midst of a shocked and saddened nation, two people were beginning a new chapter
together. Little did we know where our first conversation over the phone would
lead us.
On September 16th, 2001 I got a phone call from a guy named Matthew who had
received my number from Terre at UltimateSingles.com. I remember talking to him
for the first time and as we talked I was doing what girls do best... wondering
if he was the one and fantasizing about how our lives would be.
Here is our story.
I moved to Dallas in 1999 and quickly fell into the workeatsleep
routine that is so common around here. Driving to work one day I heard an ad on
KLTY for UltimateSingles.com and I remember thinking that I would definitely
have to make some time to fit a social life into my already busy agenda. I
eventually called UltimateSingles.com after getting the number off of their
website and began my membership.
After the first few months of dating and attending the social functions, I was
saddened because I just wasnt meeting anyone with whom I made that
connection. I became busy at work and quickly my social life dwindled.
One September day, I received an email from one of the staff at
UltimateSingles.com with the profile of someone that had selected me. Little
did I know, but he was the man
that I would marry, Matthew Cole.
Our relationship took off right from the beginning. We talked on the phone for
hours. We stayed up late at each others houses not being able to get
enough of each other.

In December, Matthew went home with me for Christmas. After a
dinner out at one of our favorite spots, as Matthew offered me his hand to help
me into the truck, he turned to me and said, I love you! I
couldnt believe how great those words sounded coming from him. We were
just like so many couples that fall in love. Or so I thought...
That night we had talked of marriage and children and our futures together, but
two days later, sitting in the doctors office I heard words that would
seemingly change everything. You have a brain tumor. My mind raced
as I struggled to figure out what this would mean for Matthew and I.
The months that followed were the most bittersweet of my life to date. With
brain surgery on the horizon it was a hard time for all of us, but one I
wouldnt change if given the chance. In all of the uncertainty Matthew
proved not only his love for me, but his undying faith in God and his
willingness to walk through the good and the bad with me. The words in
sickness and in health now mean even more to me.
Brain surgery was a success and after 6 months of recovery, we were married on
July 20th, 2002 (my 30th birthday!) We love being married!
People ask us all the time how we met and we are proud to say that we met
through UltimateSingles.com. God works in mysterious ways sometimes and we know
that He is the reason we are together and the foundation on which we will build
our life together! If you ask me, I wouldnt have it any other way.
